Overview


Our suite of professional skills training courses, targeting new and established employees as well as junior levels of management, helps trainees to become more effective on the job and in the office.

All professional skills courses run over a period of one full day, with the exception of the presentation skills course, which runs over 2 days.

These sessions are not yet available on-line and will be updated during the course of 2022 to address training needs arising from the implementation of the CA 2025 Training Programme.

Available Courses

New Employees Courses

The PS 1 Course covers:

  • Teamwork and team roles within the profession.
  • Characteristics of highly effective teams.
  • Understanding diversity and working with different cultures.

The audit and accounting profession is a team based environment. This course will highlight the successful building blocks required for high performing audit teams. Teams are diverse, and the embracing and understanding of Diversity is a critical skill in today’s workplace. Collaboration with colleagues from diverse backgrounds is a necessity. Team dynamics introduce unique contributions requiring the trainee to recognise stereotypes and differing opinions.

Fees

The cost of this 1-day intervention is R1 325 per participant in 2020 (R1 250 in 2019). These costs are exclusive of VAT but inclusive of teas and lunches as well as any files and course material to be distributed to the trainees.

    The PS 2 Course covers:

    • Time management skills.
    • Maximising productivity.
    • Covey’s 7 habits of highly effective people.

    To assist trainees in applying effective time management skills, to enable increased personal effectiveness (productivity) and increased personal efficiency. Learning successful habits in order to self –manage and eliminate time wasters, creating more time to plan and manage projects

      The PS 3 Course covers:

      • Interpersonal effectiveness.
      • Client communication skills & techniques.
      • Questioning techniques.
      • Client relationship management (including service ethics).

      To assist trainees in understanding how to manage the client relationship and understanding client- service delivery. Learns effective interpersonal skills through understanding of temperament styles and profiles. Practicing effective meeting management.

        • Report, letter & memo writing.
        • Electronic communication
        • Effective verbal communication

        To assist trainees with their development of professional business communication skills. The course focuses on a variety of both written (reports, business letters and electronic communication) and verbal formats (communication styles and preferences)

          The PS 5 Course covers:

          • Leadership styles & principles of management.
          • Principals of the “1 Minute Manager” (Ken Blanchard) applied in practical terms.
          • What is management?
          • Team leader roles analysis (Belbin / MBTI).
          • Delegation as an effective management tool.
          • Learning how to lead (including motivation).
          • The cycle of change (how to respond and adapt).

          This is a 2-day intervention that is conducted on an in-house basis only.

            Junior Manager Courses

            The PS 6 Course covers:

            • Learning the art of performance management.
            • How to manage poor performance.
            • Coaching and mentorship.

            This course is designed to cater for qualified staff who are being retained within the firm and being expected to operate at a junior management level.
