Overview

Establishing and maintaining a strong ethical culture within organisations is becoming increasingly important in South Africa.  These live on-line training interventions include ethics workshops directed at all trainees as well as interventions that assist in assessing the ethical culture within organisations with a view to recommending appropriate strategy to capitalise on strengths and work on weaknesses.

Courses Content

This 3 hour workshop (running from 8:30am to 11:30am) is directed at trainee accountants in the first year of their training contracts.

We will challenge a trainee’s understanding of what ethics is and how they might approach ethical decision making from a personal perspective.  We will discuss to whom we all have ethical responsibilities (the moral community) and will then explore common normative theories on ethical behaviour including Utilitarianism (Consequentialism), Kantian ethics, and Virtue theory.

Trainees will get the opportunity to question some of their current personal behaviour and reflect on whether any changes might be needed.

Fees

Fees for this on-line session in 2026 are R 480 per person (ex VAT).  2025 fees were R460 per person.

The workshop can also be presented very effectively on an in-house basis (on-line or face-to-face) where the whole firm can be taken through the content.  In-house rates for 2026 are R6 500 (ex VAT) for up to 25 participants (R6 250 in 2025), with a further fee of R360 per additional participant over 25 (R345 in 2025).

                Independent Review Training Session

This morning-only session focuses on teaching staff (SAICA trainees, or others) who are conducting reviews how to do them in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. Do your trainees fully understand the differences in requirements between audits, compilations, and independent reviews?  Trainees often approach independent reviews with an “auditing mindset” and this typically results in more work being performed than is necessary.

The following content will be covered through the session:

                1. Understanding the differences in requirements between audits, compilations, and reviews
                2. Understanding the regulatory requirements around reviews
                3. Understanding the reportable irregularity requirements for reviews
                4. Understanding the ISRE 2400 requirements relating to the entire review process
                5. Understanding the specific requirements around evidence gathering (inquiry and analytical review procedures)

                Fees

Fees for this on-line session are R 650 per person (ex VAT) (was R625 in 2025).

Basic Audit Procedures (BAP) Course 1:

Preparation of audit work papers, identification of relevant financial statement assertions that need to be tested, directional testing (to improve audit efficiencies), the quality and types of audit evidence, and audit work on classes of transactions are all covered.

This is an essential course to establish the fundamental principles behind auditing. It is imperative that trainees understand these fundamentals before letting them loose on audit clients!

Basic Audit Procedures (BAP) Course 2:

Typical year-end audit procedures for specific account balances are dealt with. These are:

                    • Cash & cash equivalents – the procedures to audit these balances.
                    • Inventory – Preparing for inventory counts and the procedures to perform during the audit.
                    • PPE – Audit work done on additions, disposals, depreciation, reconciliations to fixed assets register and general ledger, and impairment of assets.

This course builds on the fundamentals learned in BAP 1 and teaches trainees how to apply those fundamentals to the audit of specific year-end account balances.

BAP 3 is the 2nd part of what we started working on in BAP 2. We now turn our attention to the more complex account balances with a focus, again, on understanding the fundamentals of the assertions and directional testing and seeing how these principles drive the audit procedures for these account balances.  We also cover the principles in IFRS 9 and how these affect the audit of year-end balances.

Basic Audit Procedures (BAP) Course 3 covers further year-end audit procedures for specific account balances. These include:

                      • Receivables – Audit of trade receivables

Over a one-day session, we address the SAICA Induction requirements directly. Trainees are taken through their training contracts, their responsibilities in the workplace, the SAICA Training Programme, and the SAICA assessment process (including the assessment instruments).

The Induction course will always cover the brand new Training Regulations which become effective from 1 January that year and will incorporate the CA 2025 Training programme and it’s assessment process (we do recommend that trainees also attend the ART 2 session which focuses on the assessment process in more detail).

In our opinion, the training contract is the learning opportunity of a lifetime and we try hard to get trainees to recognise this. As such, we place a huge emphasis on getting trainees to not only understand what their training contracts will involve but also that they fully buy into the process.

                        Fees

The cost of this one-day on-line intervention is R1 300 in 2026 per participant (was R1 250 in 2025), excluding VAT.
