Overview

Helping trainee accountants understand the audit process with a view to improving audit efficiencies is vital in today’s business environment.

This training covers the entire audit process in a structured manner that best coincides with the responsibilities and job tasks that a trainee is exposed to (and expected to undertake) throughout the various stages of their training contract.

Modules make use of interactive group discussions with integrated questions, real-world case studies and an assessment quiz to ensure all trainees leave with an in-depth understanding of the issues covered.

These sessions are all going to be available via a face-to-face delivery format or via on-line learning.

We now turn our attention to the more complex account balances with a focus, again, on understanding the fundamentals of the assertions and directional testing and seeing how these principles drive the audit procedures for these account balances.  We also cover the principles in IFRS 9 and how these affect the audit of year-end balances.

Basic Audit Procedures (BAP) Course 3 covers further year-end audit procedures for specific account balances. These include:

  • Receivables – Audit of trade receivables
  • Payables – Audit of trade payables.

Advanced Audit Procedures (AAP) 4

This course takes the form of an interactive role-play with the presenter acting as the (sometimes difficult) client! This simulated audit of a medium-sized clothing manufacturer is conducted from the planning stage through to the final audited trial balance, not only honing the professional skills required on audits, but also covering:

  • The completion of various aspects of the planning documentation (including the negotiation of an audit budget).
  • Completing and concluding on the audit work on receivables, inventory and payables.
  • Evaluating final audit differences.

This is an invaluable opportunity for trainees to establish exactly how good they are at planning and performing audits. Trainees leave the course with a good idea of their developmental needs.

AAP 4 has proven to be a real confidence boost prior to trainees assuming full responsibility for running audits from start to finish.

Fees

The nature of this course makes it impractical to offer as an on-line solution.  Should we get back to face-to-face delivery, further dates for this session will be advised.

Advanced Audit Procedures (AAP) 5 covers:

  • Equipping and assessing trainees on the design and performance of tests of control, with the aim to get all participants to ‘level 4 advanced’ for all associated tasks in this SAICA competency.
  • Preparing the trainee for assessment by working through the theory behind testing controls and showing how this is practically achieved.
  • A formal assessment on the final day.

This course is conducted by NSOA SAICA-Registered Assessors, and results in a formal assessment of competence in TSR format. Trainees who do not meet the required levels of competence during this workshop do receive a re-assessment opportunity (after receiving feedback on their developmental needs).

This assessment will then provide the firm’s Assessors with sufficient evidence of their trainees’ competence in these tasks to sign them off for the Auditing & Assurance Elective (or, by default, for the Residual).

Fees

This is a 2-and-a-half day on-line course. The cost is R3 300 per participant (R3 095 in 2020). These costs are exclusive of VAT but inclusive of the assessment of the trainee’s ‘portfolio of evidence’ as well as any re-assessments if required.
